Remember, Repent, Repeat: A Daily Mission for Christian Men
Last week, my Pastor shared a message from Revelation 2:5 that stopped me in my tracks: "Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first."
When I heard those words, my mind went straight to my own Bible. I still love God’s Word, but I remember a time when I couldn't get enough of it. I used to fall asleep with the pages open, my margins filled with notes and highlighted verses. I had to ask myself: Where did that passion go?
Why Repentance Gets a "Bad Wrap"
For many of us, the word "repent" is tied to guilt and shame. We hear it and immediately think of regret or sorrow. But that is only half the story.
To repent actually means to change your mind. It means to stop what you are doing (or not doing), turn around, and go the other way. It’s not just about feeling bad; it’s about moving toward something better.
Returning to Your First Works
This mission isn't just about our prayer lives. It touches every part of who we are as men:
In Faith: Remembering the passion we once had for our Heavenly Father.
In Marriage: Remembering how we pursued our wives before we were married.
In Fatherhood: Remembering how we played and spent time with our kids.
In Health: Remembering the feeling of strength and clarity that comes from taking care of our bodies.
The Secret is in the Repeat
We are called to live in freedom, but as Christian men, that freedom requires discipline. Some days we will fall off the path. That’s why the secret is in the Repeat.
We have to make these actions a habit. We have to get up every day and choose to live on the path. We choose to remember the good things God has given us, a wife who needs us, a family that looks to us, and a life filled with purpose and mission.
Are you ready to turn around? It starts today. Remember where you were, change your direction, and repeat the discipline every single morning.
What is one "first work" you’ve let slide?
Commit to doing it today and share this with a brother who needs to hear this message.
