Living an Eternal Life Here and Now: The Warrior’s Code for Modern Men

We get up. We go to work. We provide for our families. We hit the gym. We repeat the cycle.

For many men, this routine feels like the ultimate goal of adulthood. We tell ourselves, "I’ve got this all figured out because I have a great job and I’m taking care of my business." But if we are honest, many of us are running in a circle that feels completely unsatisfying. We end up living in denial, numbing ourselves with pornography, endless screen time, or career obsession, because the daily grind isn't enough to fill the void.

There is a reason for that emptiness. You weren't created to just survive the weekly grind. You were created for a kingdom.

Colossians 1:13 tells us that God "has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His dear Son." Through Christ, you have been moved. You are no longer a citizen of the shadows; you are a warrior in the Kingdom of Light. And as warriors, we have a code, a calling, and an eternal perspective that changes everything about how we live today.

The Illusion of the Comfortable Grind

It is easy to mistake safety for purpose. Providing for your family, staying healthy, and working hard are crucial battles we must fight. But they are not the only battles.

When we limit our lives to just physical survival, we fall into complacency. We start living in denial of our deeper struggles. We hide behind our job titles while fighting silent battles with isolation, temptation, and a lack of true passion.

True hope does not come from securing a comfortable life on earth. It comes from aligning your daily actions with an eternal timeline. Living an eternal life here and now means looking past what you need today and focusing on what God has in store for the future when His kingdom fully comes.

Your Unique Calling: A Battle, an Adventure, and a Beauty

Author John Eldredge famously wrote that the core of a man’s heart desires three things: a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue. God did not make men as carbon copies of one another. He built a specific, unique passion inside of you. There is something in this broken world that should break your heart uniquely, and that is exactly where your battle lies.

Finding Your Unique Battlefront

Your spiritual battlefield will look different from the man standing next to you:

  • Empowering Leaders: For some, it is mentoring, training, and encouraging other men to step out of isolation and into authentic leadership.

  • Fighting Injustice: For others, it might be a burden to fight human trafficking, save vulnerable women, or stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

  • Guiding the Next Generation: It might be working with fatherless children or youth who are searching for direction and identity.

Your specific gifts and burdens define your purpose. When you find that battle, you find your passion.

Shifting from "Fighting For" to "Fighting From" Victory

The most critical shift in the warrior’s code is understanding how we battle.

Many of us live under the crushing weight of trying to win God’s approval, trying to secure our own salvation, or trying to defeat our giants in our own strength. We are exhausted because we are fighting for victory.

But the Gospel offers a completely different posture: We battle from a place of victory, not for victory.

Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, the war is won. You have already been transferred into His kingdom. Your identity is secure. Your victory is guaranteed. When you fight from this perspective, the pressure dissipates. You no longer fight out of fear; you fight out of triumph.

The Power of Eternal Prayers

If you want to experience this reality, you have to change what you ask for. 1 John 5:14 promises: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

We spend a lot of time asking God for comfort, safety, and material blessings. But what if we started praying bolder prayers?

What if you got down on your knees and asked:

  • "Father, reveal to me what my specific battle is."

  • "Show me the adventure I am supposed to live out in this life."

  • "Give me a vision of the beauty I am called to rescue."

When you focus your prayers on these eternal things, your perspective shifts. You will find a level of hope, happiness, and fulfillment that a comfortable life can never provide. It will never be easy, but it is exactly where your Father created you to be.

Commit to praying this week: Ask God to reveal your true battle, step onto the adventure, and start living your eternal life today.
